“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
A common misconception among Christians is that our bodies and soul are separate. We know that our human nature makes us vulnerable to sin, so we look to our soul as the vehicle for transcendence. Yet both our body and spirit were created by God and invested with divine purpose.
Even in death, the Bible teaches us that our body is transformed, rather than shed entirely. It is the dynamic interconnectivity between body and soul that forms the basis of our being.
Proverb 17:22 warns us of the relationship between spiritual and physical suffering, and how the burdens that we feel spiritually can manifest physically if not resolved. Positivity alone may not solve every problem, but a cheerful disposition can do wonders for your bodily wellbeing.
Even when our body ails, through God’s grace there is always a joy to be found in our relationship with the Lord – a joy that transcends bodily burdens, and may even hasten their alleviation.
