"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The Apostle Paul gives us a fantastic dichotomy in this verse; the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Take note that sin demands payment, there is a wage for living in sin, and therefore sin is bondage, not freedom.

Eventually, it comes to settle the debt, but an eternal debt is too high a price for a mortal creature. Without being able to pay it, those who die in their sins must be cast away from the holy presence of God into the debtor’s prison, which is Hell, the second death.

However, those who believe that the Lord Jesus Christ paid their sin debt upon the cross are those who receive His eternal life. Our God is gracious, generous, and merciful in this, for notice eternal life has no wage, there is no payment, it is God’s free gift, and it is ours for the taking.
