"So do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Throughout scripture, God tells His children “fear not,” in the face of uncertainty and difficulty. Here, He provides three comforts to help us overcome our fear, starting with a simple reminder of who He is. When He says “I am God,” He invites us to remember the truth that He is the Creator of all things, the One who rescued Israel from slavery, and the One who is an ever-present help in trouble.

And because God is all-powerful, sovereign over the universe, He has a never-ending reservoir from which He supplies the strength we need for each day’s journey. For in our weakness, His power is made perfect and His glory is revealed. And to all who believe, He promises the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, our Helper, and Advocate.

And His perfect love, which casts out all fear, sustains us. For Jesus, who sits at the Father’s right hand, became the perfect sacrifice, forgiving our sins and imparting his righteousness upon us. And because we know that we are covered by his blood, even when we stumble, we have the assurance that he will set us right, so that we may move forward in confidence and peace.
