"Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you."
In the midst of his instructions about humility, Peter adds this reminder to hand our anxiety over to God. What is the connection? When we live according to pride, we heap pressure on ourselves to perform well, to be wholly self-reliant, and to seek the admiration of others for our own glory. Often, this leads to a self-destructive pattern of placing impossible demands on ourselves, which can only lead to despair.
But God calls us instead to a life marked by humility, obedience to Him, and service to one another. When we surrender to God, giving up our prideful desires, He frees us from our self-imposed worries and burdens, and He fills us with His grace. And it is by His grace that He shows His deep care for us, not by catering to our self-serving demands, but by transforming us according to His great love and His perfect will.
