Genesis 1:27-28

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'"

Take a moment and marvel that the Almighty God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, took common dust from the ground and molded it into His image. Not only that, but He loved the man and woman greatly. How do we know? He gave them to each other in marriage and instructed them to be fruitful and fill the earth with their children. He could have filled the earth with men and women in abundance Himself, but He chose to create only two from the dust, then instructed them to teach their children to care for the earth. In so doing, He gave humanity the honor of creating children in their own image, as He had done, and instructing them with wisdom and knowledge, as He had also done.

Not only that, He gave the man and woman sovereignty over the earth to rule it and subdue it as they would, to care for God’s animals, to till the earth, to grow gardens, and rejoice in His bounty. We are made in God’s image in our body, and we live out God’s image in His creation and provision. Indeed, this is a weighty glory God still gives His children today.
